Jordan's Birthday

Jordan turned 11 a couple of days ago. I can't believe how old he is getting. I look at other people my age and think "Wow, they have a kid that age?" And then realize......so do I! Time flies....whether you're having fun or not.

As pathetic as it may sound, I forgot to make him a birthday cake. I was planning family night on Monday and the lesson I was going to teach had a dessert to go along with it. It was a Hill Cumorah cake. So Jordan got a cake afterall! It was supposed to be kindof like a "Baked Alaska", cake on the bottom, ice cream mounded on top and covered w/a meringue that you "toast" in the oven. Well, the directions said to put it in the oven for 3 minutes to toast it. I thought I'd be brilliant and use my torch that I use for Creme Brulee. HA! What a joke. The torch is so small and did NOT have enough flame power to toast that whole cake. So I stuck it in the oven afterall....after the cake (and ice cream, mind you) had been sitting out under a torch for about 10 minutes. After about 5 minutes in a 500degree oven, the meringue still wasn't toasted. It WAS melted, though! Mostly anyway. And the ice cream was starting to do the same. So I took it out, quickly put one candle on it and we sung Happy Birthday. It didn't look great, but tasted wonderful! And Jordan didn't mind. Although, he decided the one candle I gave him wasn't enough. So the pyro started lighting candles on HIS piece of cake. It was his birthday....whatever makes him happy.
Jordan also got to go snowboarding with Dad for his birthday the next day. We have no pictures of that, though. They had a great time. One of the times they accidentally took the wrong lift and ended up going down a bunch of blue (intermediate) runs. He was scared at first but ended up loving it and wanted to go again! Hey, as long as he doesn't break anything or end up in the hospital I'm ok with it.

Green Eggs & Ham

The Literacy Center in Lehi holds an annual Green Eggs & Ham breakfast. I decided to take the kids this year. Brave, I know. But let me tell you....Chris is going with me next year. I just can't do 5 kids alone......

The kids did have fun, though. They weren't too thrilled that the eggs were green. Although, I DID taste them and they tasted exactly the same as they would if they were yellow. Go figure! Luckily they had more than just green eggs to eat.

Jordan will eat anything.......

Lauren on the other hand.....she won't even pretend. The Lehi Pioneer was walking around while everyone was eating breakfast. The kids (most of them anyway) thought it was great. Elizabeth and Lauren were both freaked out. But wouldn't you too if someone with a head 10 times the size of his body came at you too!?!?!? (OK, maybe that's a bit of an exaggeration.....)

The kids also had fun winning prizes and having animal balloons made for them. They had a bunch of activities going on in the other gym. The kids loved it. I think we'll go back next year.

I Hate Titles

I've decided this year that I need to start a blog. People (Dani) are alwys asking me for pictures and I am HORRIBLE at getting pictures for myself, let alone anyone else. So I figured this would be an excellent way to let everyone know how our adorable little home-schooled family of 7 is doing. As for the title above....I really do hate titles. Journal post titles, movie titles, book titles. They never do anything justice and I'm usually irritated by them. So there will probably not be a whole lot of titles throughout my blogging. Unless something miraculously comes to me. But don't count on it.

Anyways, I'm really not good at this kind of stuff. And as I said before I'm horrible with pictures, as I also am at keeping in touch with friends and family. So please be patient with me. I'm trying....it's a start.

Since this is kinda my practice post I'll post a picture too so I can make sure I'm doing this right. If I did this right, there should be a picture of me and the girls tkaen up in the snowy mountains in December of 2007 and a picture of Chris and the boys with their guns. They think they're pretty cool......
